Due to the significant advances in the Taiwanese Navy's second-generation
fleet, the old traditional Tug Boats were unable to provide the
maneuverability, speed and power which are necessary to quickly
and safely pull the new big warships into port or to quickly mobilize
in case of war. In accordance with Taiwan's national defense policy,
the policy of domestically building Taiwan's Navy, and due to the
yard's vast experience which was acquired by structuring tugboats
for Kaohsiung's Harbor Bureau, Ching Fu was appointed to design
and built eight new type Tug Boats for the Taiwanese Navy.
In conjunction with the Navy, Ching Fu created the building plans
and strategy for these Tug Boats which have loads of 1800 HP and
are equipped with 360 degrees Steerable Rudder Propeller (Z-drive
Propeller). These Naval tugboats not only satisfy the rigorous standards
of the U.S. Navy in terms of intact stability and damage stability,
but are also able to meet the demands of non-combat for a period
of fifteen to twenty years. Furthermore, these Tug Boats are designed
to transport light arms around a war zone during wartime.
Complying with strict Naval standards, Ching Fu built these eight
Tug Boats to surpass the functionality and quality of all other
standard tugboats. These 1800 HP Tug Boats are not only able to
superbly perform the customary operations of mobile rotation and
the towing of big warships but are also fitted to with a general
marine sprinkler hull protection system, a fire fighting system
for warships and have oil pollution clean up capacity.
