In 1991 Ching Fu brought the traditional Taiwanese tuna purse seiner
building industry to a new level. We obtained exclusive license
from Campbell Shipyards, San Diego, USA (now known as MARCO Engineering)
to build their 1500 CBM Super Pacific Class Tuna Purse Seiner in
Taiwan.. The seiners built by Ching Fu have the same hull lines
and general naval architecture as all other super seiners built
by Campbell, including the same power package and helicopter. The
ship's refrigeration systems are based on the Japanese method of
freezing the tuna down to -30 degrees C. In order to achieve this,
increased insulation was designed into each tuna tank, including
wooden furring construction, giving these vessels a 'floating liner'
configuration. This enables these Ching Fu ships to land the tuna
directly to markets, rather than employing the US and European method
of offloading to canneries. The yard's tuna purse seiner vessels
were built under ABS classification..
