| The second generation of Chens,
led by Ching Nan Chen, established the Fong
Seong Fishing Group. Together with Fong Kuo Fishery, they have
a combined operating fleet of thirteen 1000 ton, two 1200 ton and
two 1735 ton purse seiners and two 2200 ton super tuna purse seiners,
which is approximately one third of the number of tuna purse seiners
permitted to operate out of Taiwanese waters. In addition to these
vessels, both fleets also own refeers and Fong Seong's fleet has a
2300 DWT Clean Oil Product Tanker. Impressively, the Chen family has
been in the fishery business for almost forty solid years and is a
major contender in Taiwan's as well as the world's tuna industry.

In 1989, with over ten years of shipbuilding experience at Fong
Kuo Shipbuliding, Ching Nan Chen, established a new shipyard,
Ching Fu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Ching Fu is the first private shipyard
in Taiwan to build international standard product carriers and multi-purpose
ships.
The family's unique ownership of both shipyards and fishing companies
has afforded them great flexibility within both industries. In fact,
Ching Fu constructed the four large Super Tuna Purse Seiners and oil
tanker for the Fong Seong Fishing
Group. All of Fong Seong's remaining vessels were built at Fong
Kuo. |
